2009 International Conference on Molecular Neurodegeneration (ICMN)

May 18-20, 2009, Xiamen, China

Neurodegenerative diseases are the leading cause of dementia in the elderly and affect an increasing number of the aging population. Significant progress has been made in the past 20 years in understanding disease mechanisms and in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various neurodegenerative diseases. Molecular Neurodegeneration and Institute for Biomedical Research, Xiamen University will co-organize the “First International Conference on Molecular Neurodegeneration” on May 18-20, 2009, in Xiamen, China . More than 20 researchers who are leaders in their perspective neurodegeneration research fields have been invited to present in the meeting. Success of this conference will generate greater interest in neurodegeneration research and improve international collaboration in this important research area.

Objectives:

  1. Promote cutting-edge neurodegeneration research in China and in the neighboring countries.
  2. Facilitate the exchange of information relevant to neurodegenerative research.
  3. Provide education opportunity for students, postdocs and physicians.
  4. Provide a platform for investigators at different career levels to interact and network, and to foster collaborations at the international levels.

Conference Highlights
More than 20 world-wide leading scientists have been invited and will present, including Dr. Aaron Ciechanover, a 2004 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry for his discovery of the ubiquitin system, and Dr. Steven Heinemann, a member of the US National Academy of Sciences, making this conference one of the highest level scientific conferences, ever held in China in the area of neurodegeneration.Senior scholars and scientists from around the world and China will have a round table meeting to discuss future directions and possible collaborations in neurodegeneration research.

The official language of the conference will be English. Lecture, panel discussion and poster will be included in this conference.

Organizers
This conference will be co-organized by Molecular Neurodegeneration and Institute for Biomedical Research, Xiamen University.
Molecular Neurodegenerationhttp://www.molecularneurodegeneration.com/) is an open access, peer-reviewed online journal that will encompass all aspects of neurodegeneration research at the molecular and cellular levels. Molecular Neurodegeneration is published by BioMed Central, an independent publisher committed to ensuring peer-reviewed biomedical research is Open Access. Molecular Neurodegeneration's articles are archived in PubMed Central. BioMed Central is working closely with the Thomson Reuters (ISI) to ensure that citation analysis of articles published in Molecular Neurodegeneration will be available, and now its unofficial impact factor is 4.00.
Institute for Biomedical Research, Xiamen University (IBMR) is established to promote the transformation of basic research into clinical application. IBMR consists of six centers, including Cancer Research Center, Cell biology and Infectious Diseases Research Center, Metabolic Disease Research Center, Neurodegenerative Diseases and Aging Research Center, Translational Medicine Research Center and Natural Product Chemistry Research Center. IBMR is dedicated to revealing the fundamental molecular causes of diseases and devising the innovative therapies of tomorrow.
